GENERAL INFORMATION All mountain lion hunts are a (7) day hunt in the mountain country of the Hoback Canyon region and the Grey's River region. We are very proud to announce that all of our lion hunts are guided exclusively by Jason Reinhardt, one of the best, if not THE best mountain lion guide in Wyoming. Jason holds a State of Wyoming Professional Guides license, has a history of finding a lot of big cats and is the hardest working guide you will ever hunt with. You will finish your hunt knowing that every effort was made to help you harvest a good cat, both legally, ethically and always using fair chase methods. Additionally, Jason guides exclusively for Bear Basin Outfitters, making his talents unavailable to other outfitters in the area. You will stay in our full-service hunting lodge located 30 miles south of Jackson Hole in Bondurant, Wyoming. The lodge is equipped with comfortable beds, hot showers, pool table, full bar, fuse ball table, darts and more! Our lodge cook will prepare you three meals a day, including a hot breakfast and dinner. Lunch on the trail is a brown bag style lunch and is provided daily. The lodge abuts the National Forest and some hunting is done directly from the lodge. Each day you will travel in our late model crew cab trucks to the hunt areas, where we will begin searching via snowmobile for lion tracks to put the dogs on. Once a good track is located the dogs will be put on the track and the fun begins. If the dogs bay the lion we will use snowmobiles to get as close to their location as possible, then switch to snow shoes if necessary. All hunts are fair chase conducted on public lands in which we are permitted to operate guiding and outfitting services on. All indicators are that Wyoming's lion population is on the rise providing a great opportunity for hunters to harvest a good lion. A lot of time lion hunting is spent searching for tracks either by vehicle or snowmobile. Hunters should be in relatively good physical condition, as some hunts can result in walking in steep snow covered terrain. Hunters who wish to remain in Jackson Hole on some days while the guides search for tracks are welcome to do so. Once a track is located the hunter will be notified and ask to meet at a pre-determined location to begin the hunt prior to the release of the hounds on the track. For those in less than perfect physical condition, this can allow for a more relaxing hunt than having to rise early and search for tracks all day long. It also allows you to take in some of the local attractions in the Jackson Hole area while waiting for the call. Most shots will be 25 yards or less and each hunter should arrive having practiced for relatively short distance shots. Any .30 caliber or larger rifle will suffice. An open sited .30-.30 is the ideal rifle for this hunt. We like to anchor the lion on the first shot for safety and recommend that you do not use smaller calibers. Many lions in our area will be in the 125-150 pound range. However some big toms will push the 200 pound mark. Our guides will field-dress; cape and care for your animal after harvest and deliver you're animal to a local meat processor and taxidermist. However you must make arrangements with each business for deposits they may require and shipping. Our website has information about local taxidermists and meat processors that you can make pre-hunting arrangements with. HOW TO APPLY FOR A LICENSE IN THE
You MUST purchase a Wyoming mountain lion license before we can provide outfitting services to you. Applications can be found on the WY Game and Fish Department website. There is a link to this website on our site and can be found in the "non-resident" section of the site. We are also happy to mail you the application and we will fill out the hunt areas and type for you if you want to purchase your license before arrival, otherwise you may purchase your tag once you arrive in Wyoming. Winter mountain lion season begins September 1st and the season runs through March 31st or until a female mortality or total quota rate is reached. We only take 8-10 lion hunters in the winter, so book early to assure your hunt dates. Although the season begins in September, it requires snow to find lion tracks and increase your success rate. Therefore, we do not begin hunting lions until there is enough snow to track the lions. This usually occurs by November 15th to late November. A mountain license is $368 as of 2010 and can be purchased over the counter at any licensed outlet. COST OF HUNT
Hunt includes all lodging, lunch daily, transportation to and from the Jackson Hole Wyoming International airport, as well as delivery of your meat to a processor (if you choose to keep your lion meat as it is not required by Wyoming law) and delivery of your lion hide to a local taxidermist. It also includes use of our snowmobiles and all equipment necessary to track the lions, i.e. dogs, snow shoes etc. It DOES NOT include the cost of processing/ shipping your meat or the cost of your taxidermy work. We can recommend several good taxidermists in our area that will ship your lion to you once completed. Please make all arrangements for your taxidermy work prior to the hunt by calling a taxidermist of your choosing and working out the details of payment, shipping and details of how long it will take to complete their work. This is a very exciting adventure and we will work hard to make your trip a memory to last a life time! Please understand that this is a very physically demanding hunt and no one with major medical problems or who are in poor physical condition should go on this hunt. To book a trip, please go to the "payment/ refund" page for details. |
