GENERAL WILDERNESS HUNT and LODGE/CABIN HUNT INFORMATION

Bear Basin Outfitter’s wilderness camp is located in the heart of the famous Hoback Canyon in Western Wyoming, 20 miles south of Jackson Hole.

This area (Region H for deer) consistently produces trophy quality mule deer bucks and bull elk. We also have an abundance of mature Wyoming Shiras moose.

Our wilderness camp is located at an elevation of approx. 8500 feet and is accessed by horseback or foot (approximately a two hours horse ride/ pack trip from the base camp.)

Additionally, we offer day-use hunts from our hunting lodge, located in rural Bondurant Wyoming, 30 miles south of Jackson Hole. The lodge and cabin is a full service lodge, sleeping up to 20 in comfortable beds, with full bar, pool table, fuse ball table, big screen television, hot showers, and wonderfully prepared hot meals and more!

The lodge and cabin is located in the heart of our hunt units, with a short distance to travel to hunt a variety of terrains and drainages for everything from; mule deer, elk, bear, lion, moose and black bear. The lodge backs up to National Forest with some hunts taking off directly from the back of the lodge property. The lodge acts as our base camp to a multitude of hunting adventures. The elevation of the lodge is approx 7200 feet.

We recommend that hunters choose to do a combination hunt, with a few days in the wilderness camp and a few days in the hunting lodge. This allows for the best of both worlds, hunting high country areas and mid-range country, additionally it allows you to recharge your batteries for hunting a full week in Wyoming that can be somewhat physically demanding. (This is how all hunts are automatically booked unless otherwise pre-arranged). You may also choose to do your entire hunt from the lodge, with a visit to our wilderness camp during one of your days of hunting. All spring black bear, mountain lion and antelope hunts are outfitted from our lodge and cabin.

The spectacular views and fall colors during our hunts are second to none and offer some great opportunities for taking photos.

During your stay in our wilderness camp you will be greeted by our friendly camp staff that will assist you in getting settled into your stove-heated, spacious wall tent, your home for the next couple of days. All tents are equipped with a cot and comfortable mattress, as well as pillow. All lodge hunts include a twin bed with 1600 thread count sheets, down bedding and plenty of room to enjoy the amenities of the lodge, to include an area to check the zero of your rifle if necessary.

All hunts, wilderness camp and lodge hunts, come with three wonderfully prepared meals daily, prepared by our camp cooks. Each morning you start your day with a hearty breakfast before you begin your hunting adventure. Lunch is a well rounded brown bag style meal, including sandwiches, snacks, drinks and desserts. (Special requests can be accommodated as well).  You close each day with a wonderful hot dinner. Many of our dinners include Dutch oven prepared meals and unique dishes such as buffalo, as well as hot baked homemade desserts.

After dinner we like to relax and spend out time standing around the campfire discussing the hunt and the occasional story of the “big one” that we’ll find tomorrow.

Whether you choose a wilderness camp hunt, lodge hunt or a combination of both, your only worry will be deciding what size buck or bull you hope to harvest, as our staff will handle every detail from field dressing, capping your animal to delivering the meat to a local processor. Not to mention the care and saddling of your horse each day.

We also offer discounted taxidermy work through Hunter’s Taxidermy Shop when you hunt with Bear Basin Outfitters. HTS will pick up your horns and cape at the lodge and take your taxidermy order in person. All taxidermy work can be ship directly back to you at your home, or picked up the following season if you return to hunt with us again.

When you hunt with Bear Basin Outfitters, you will be treated to an adventure, where you will hopefully not leave with just a trophy animal, but a memory of good times shared with good friends…in a very special place. See you this spring or fall!
