GENERAL INFORMATION All bison hunts are a fun filled seven (7) day hunt in the mountain country near Jackson Hole Wyoming. You will either stay in a cozy private room at our ranch or in a local hotel near Jackson Hole Wyoming. All hunts are fair chase conducted on public lands in which we are permitted to operate guiding and outfitting services on. All indicators are that Wyoming's bison population is on the rise providing a great opportunity for hunters to harvest a bison. A lot of time bison hunting is spent waiting for bison to leave the national parks and enter the Nation forest land where they are legal to hunt. Therefore hunting will entail driving a lot of country looking for bison that may be crossing into the legal hunt areas. Most shots will be 100 yards or less and each hunter should arrive having practiced for relatively short distance shots. Any .30 caliber or larger rifle will suffice. We like to anchor the bison on the first shot for safety reasons and will have to insist that smaller calibers are not used. Mature bull bison can reach upwards of 2000 pounds, while cow bison can reach upwards of 1200 pounds. Both are a tremendous trophy and Wyoming's bison herd is one of the last remaining wild herds left in the United States. That's what makes this hunt different than hunting domesticated bison on a high fence ranch. These are TRUE wild animals! Wyoming does not issue very many bison tags. Typically the Game and Fish Department will authorize 20-30 bull tags and 40-60 cow tags. Drawing a tag requires you enter into a drawing called the "priority list" drawing. What this means is you pay a nominal ($17) non-refundable fee to be placed in the drawing. If you are one of the lucky persons to be drawn a low number, then it's very likely you will get to hunt. You will find out when Wyoming Game and Fish Department contacts you to advise you that your number is low enough to purchase a license. If you are chosen, then you still must purchase the license to actually hunt. During the hunt you will be served breakfast, a brown bag style lunch then you will be served a hot meal in the evening at our ranch or a local restaurant. All of our guides are fun to hunt with and are very knowledgeable of the hunt areas. Our guides will field-dress; cape and care for your animal after harvest and deliver you're animal to a local meat processor and taxidermist. However you must make arrangements with each business for deposits they may require and shipping. Our website has information about local taxidermists and meat processors that you can make pre-hunting arrangements with. HOW TO APPLY FOR A LICENSE IN THE We are licensed to guide and outfit in the following areas, however if you want to hunt with us, you must give us ample notice so that we can obtain the proper permits needed for us to guide and outfit your hunt:
You MUST purchase a Wyoming bison license before we can provide outfitting services to you. Applications to be placed in the priority list drawing can be found on the WY Game and Fish Department website. There is a link to this website on our site and can be found in the "non-resident" section of the site. We are also happy to mail you the application and we will fill out the hunt areas and type for you. Bison season typically begins in mid-August and runs through the end of November. However you may not be advised you are eligible to purchase a bison license until after the official season begins. This is due to the fact that the Wyoming Game and Fish Department may decide to allocate additional tags above the "customary" number of tags they have issued in a given year. A Bison license is $2,101 as of 2007 and can be purchased from the Wyoming Game and Fish Department if you are eligible. COST OF HUNT The cost of our services for a seven (7) day hunt is:
Hunt includes all lodging, meals, transportation to and from the Jackson Hole Wyoming International airport, as well as delivery of your meat to a processor and delivery of your bison hide to a local taxidermist. It DOES NOT include the cost of processing your meat or the cost of your taxidermy work. This is a very exciting adventure and we will work hard to make your trip a memory to last a life time! To book a trip, please go to the "booking a hunt" page for details. Thank You |
