A LITTLE ABOUT YOUR OUTFITTER AND GUIDES

OUTFITTER/GUIDE
I grew up in Wyoming and have spent much of my life pursuing big
game and trophy game animals in this wonderful state, as well
as much of North America and Canada. I still get that deep down
excited feeling when I see a big mule deer or bull elk and love
to share that experience with others.
I have raised my three boys, AJ, Christian and Landen to appreciate
this great resource that we have been given by God and to endure
to help protect and preserve it. My great hope in life is to pass
on the heritage of this business to my children so that they can
continue the traditions and experiences we live for.
I have also learned that a hunt is more than harvesting an animal
it's the total experience that counts. Here at Bear Basin Outfitters,
we know that your time in Wyoming is your chance to unwind and
enjoy all that a hunt can offer. From the moment you contact our
friendly staff you will find there is a difference in our service.
I've been on good hunts and not so good hunts before I got into
this business and have molded our operation into a hunt that I
would want to go on that is a good value for your dollar.
What you can expect is top notch service, comfortable accommodations,
great food, excellent guides and memories that will last a lifetime.
We hope that you will choose to hunt with us and we look forward
to meeting a new friend.
Respectfully

CO-OWNER/GUIDE
Having chosen the United States Army as my career, I spent a large
portion of my life traveling the world and being stationed in
areas like Alaska. While doing so, I took the opportunity to hunt
as often as I could, having a deep love for the sport of hunting.
After retiring from the miltary I chose to make Wyoming my home,
where much of my family resides. I simply love all that Wyoming
has to offer!
We at Bear Basin Outfitters value our customers, who we like to
refer to as our "friends", and look forward to getting
to know you on a personal level.
Remember we give discounts to our Veterans and appreciate their
sacrifices.
Sincerely
Paul Smith

I was born and raised in eastern Idaho and moved to Wyoming approximately
15 years ago. I put myself in the category of a "mule deer
crazed man". I have been fortunate enough to have harvested
some magnificent trophy animals, but enjoy greatly the experience
of helping others to achieve this same dream. I live in the heart
of where our camp is located and know the area very well. I also
know the value of getting to spend time in such beautiful country.
I look forward to meeting you and helping you realize "your"
dream of hunting in the wilderness of Wyoming.
Sincerely
Tony Matthews

I am a native to the Jackson Hole area. My grandparents were early
settlers and homesteaders in the area and as such, hunting has
been a way
of life for me. I especially love elk hunting, having personally
taken
nearly 50 elk in my life. Some of the greatest times of my life
have been
in the hills hunting and teaching my kids to hunt with me. I truly
love
the country we hunt and will do everything in my power to provide
you with
a memorable experience and a quality hunt.

I hail from Utah (Don't hold that against me) but have lived in
Wyoming for several years now. I was drawn to Wyoming knowing
that it had some of the best hunting this Country has to offer.
After moving here, I learned it was true, there are tremendous
hunting opportunities here and Bear Basin Outfitters camp is in
the heart of some great hunting for elk, deer, moose, bear and
sheep. The camp is in the famous Hoback Canyon area that turns
out trophy quality game on a regular basis. My true passion is
archery hunting and love that sound of a bugling bull at 20 yards!
I look forward to meeting you in camp.

GUIDE
After drawing a non-resident Wyoming bighorn sheep permit when
I was 18 years old, and having successfully killed a mature ram,
I swore some day Id return to live in Jackson Hole. Well,
26 years ago I moved to Wyoming and made that vow come true. Since
then, Ive lived a life most only dream about. Ive
spent every fall chasing big and trophy game through the Gros
Ventre Wilderness, taking and helping others to take their game.
On top of that, Ive even managed to draw a tag for and kill
a second Wyoming ram!
I have a passion for hunting and have been fortunate enough
to hunt from the Talkeetnas in Alaska to Masailand in Africa and
many areas in between. Guiding for Bear Basin Outfitters is a
thrill for me. I get to meet some great people, spend some time
around a campfire with a bourbon and branch and enjoy hearty meals
all out of a camp located in the heart of outstanding deer and
elk country. And, nothing beats hunting the high alpine country
for trophy sized mule deer while listening to the haunting sound
of elk bugling and looking down below at the awesome display of
fall colors. I hope you can join us at the campfire this season
and share in the wonderful experience of hunting some of the worlds
most challenging animals in the greatest of all Gods country.
Best Regards,

Having lived in Wyoming for many years and guided for most of
them, I have grown to love the pursuit of big game. I enjoy training
horses, my family and the expectation of fall (Not necessarily
in that order). Bear Basin Outfitters has a good operation in
some wonderful country. If you choose to hunt with us, I know
you will have an experience that will be filled with good memories.

GUIDE
I have been guiding for a couple of years now and have gained
very valuable experience by spending as much time as I can in
our hunting area. I have gotten to know the "honey holes"
and the patterns of the game by scouting as much as possible.
I choose to work for Bear Basin Outfitters because they run an
honest operation where hunters and guides are treated with respect
and the only expectation is to enjoy what your doing. I hope you
will choose to hunt with us and I am sure you will leave feeling
like you want to return the next year to hunt with us again.

I was born and raised in Jackson and have spent much of my life
in the
heart of Bear Basin Outfitter's hunting areas. Hunting is a passion
of
mine that I pursue with every opportunity. The herds you will
be hunting
have sustained my family through the winters for nearly 100 years.
I
especially enjoy hunting trophy antelope, elk hunting, and waterfowl
hunting. Your outfitter, Todd Smith, is one of my best friends
and has
been one of my primary hunting partners for over a decade. You
will find
that he is 100% dedicated to providing you the experience of a
lifetime in
one of the most beautiful settings on Earth. I look forward to
meeting you
and will do whatever it takes to make your hunt a success.

Born and raised in big wonderful Wyoming and spent as much of
my life on horseback pursuing monster bucks and giant bulls as
my wife would allow. The area where we hunt is rich with game
and some of the prettiest country you will ever lay your eyes
on. We work hard for you and I am sure you will find your stay
with us a good time. It's about making memories and sharing with
good friends. Come and join us this year and find out for yourself.

CAMP COOK
I currently live in Maine but have lived in Colorado, Utah, Arizona, & California as well as 2 mid western, 3 northeastern states and 1 foreign country. This includes some very large cities as well as rural areas. After retiring from a 31 year career as an airline pilot, I wanted to take some time and enjoy the out of doors hence the move to Maine where the clock runs slower. I'm a Registered Maine Guide and hunt Moose, Deer, Bear, & Turkeys here but wanted to experience the "western way" of hunting—on horseback using pack animals in non motorized areas. I also have a passion for cooking and thought to combine the two at Bear Basin. My goal is to have the clients enjoy the time in camp as much as their time hunting by preparing hearty, mouthwatering food.
